Super Short Story called Merchant Ship

MERCHANT SHIP from circa 2020

Captain Edgewood emerged from his quarters with a furled brow, an unusual look for the ahndsome middle-aged man. Second mate Cofferall took notice o fhis Captain's unusual display and dismissed the crew. He anticipated news of a great tempest, or a bit of bad luck regarding the Orleans Port they were on course for. The ship's hold contained a mix of tobacco and medicinal herbs and the payoff was just ahead, at the Orlean's Port. As the crew departed, Captain Edgewood drew a long, deep breath as he walked to the officer's quarters and bid Cofferall follow him in with a wave of his hand.

Inside the officer's quarters was pleasant enough. A mahogany billiards table complimented the wooden ship and well-kept oak table. Other furniture was spacious wherever finery did not adorn and candelbras were available to cast light for paperwork. The Captain lit a couple of candelbra and set them upon the oaken great table as Cofferall offered a brandy before bringing the beverages with him as he joined his captain at the sturdy table. Captain Edgewood took down the entire glass of brandy in one drink, stunning Cofferall, "What have you learned, Captain?"

"War. Orleans is already burning. The port is closed."
